The media has been an important partner in my work, first in helping to inspire the concept behind TakingITGlobal, and in profiling our work to audiences around the world! It hasn't always been possible to keep the focus away from my personal story, but it's getting slightly easier over time.
In 2008, Contribute Magazine featured me as one of "10 Tech Revolutionaries Redefining the Power and Face of Philanthropy", in an article that looked at the many ways that technology is supporting the charitable sector in growing the engagement of young people in causes.
I was proud to be a laureate at the 2007 Tech Museum awards for Technology Benefitting Humanity, recognizing the development of the TIGed program, which supports educators in their rich integration of technology and global education into the classroom. TakingITGlobal was also selected to win the $50,000 cash prize, the Microsoft Education Award.
In 2003, CANARIE, Canada's Advanced Networking association, awarded me with their Public Service award for my innovation in the non-profit sector and the development of the TakingITGlobal web site.
